Balletto di Roma launches Light on Dance
June / July 2019
Balletto di Roma (BdR), intends to select, through a public notice, young artists (choreographers, dancers, directors, etc.) from the contemporary scene who will have the opportunity to create a new creation with the BdR dancers for 2020, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the company foundation.
Through this project, BdR intends to promote contemporary research by supporting professional artists working in the field of dance (in all its forms, genres and expressions), theater-dance, performing arts and contemporary circus, favoring multidisciplinary projects in which the different arts merge and dialogue with each other, or that use new technologies and digital languages.
The purpose of this project is to support and enhance new creatives in the artistic sphere that are still little known, to encourage their production, to become a link between tradition and the look towards contemporaneity.
The notice is aimed at young artists, who have already developed a professional path, capable of confronting themselves with the creation of a show and able to compete with an ensemble of professionals.
Participation in all phases is the sole responsibility of the participants.
Transmission of the material (as per Notice), evaluation and selection of the documentation submitted.
Selected candidates must present a work representative of their style and performed by one or more persons other than the choreographer (not exceeding 15 minutes).
Among all the participants, BdR will choose a group of finalists, who will have to elaborate an original and original artistic project (which has never made its debut either as a study or in a complete form) for a new creation.
The unpublished project must be sent by e-mail according to specific indications which will be communicated to the interested parties only afterwards.
BdR reserves the right to have a Skype interview with the finalists.
BdR, at its sole discretion, to select the winner to be entrusted with the creation for 2020.
The phases of work and presentation will take place at Teatro Villa Pamphili in Rome, which thus becomes an incubator of a new creativity.
Eventual travel, board and lodging costs will be borne by the artists and performers.
The BdR will be responsible for operating costs and the related contribution charges, limited to the single day of presentation of the show (during the second phase of June and July).
The availability times for the presentations of the works are:
Candidates may indicate in the Application Form on the website www.ballettodiroma.com, one of the two different times as preferential (this preference is not binding for the BdR, but is purely indicative).
During the second steps, a two-day stay is requested from the participating artists, during which they will be invited to give a training lesson on their own style.
The scheduling of the new creation will be agreed with the direction of BdR, at the end of the fourth step.
The winning artist will be able to use a mentor during the creation.
The mentor, understood as an “external eye”, will be identified together with the BdR between its artistic staff and / or its collaborators.
